The Women's World Cup kicks off on 20 July 2023 and it's fantastic to see how much progress has been made over the past 50 years. In the run up to the World Cup, I've been really interested to read up more about the history of women's football and to understand the hurdles encountered along the way.
Given my role as the leader of FTI Consulting Asia's Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging committee, I am passionate about driving efforts to achieve a more diverse and inclusive culture, both within our firm and the communities in which we live.
It's great to see some of the statistics which show that this upcoming tournament is on track to be the most attended standalone international women's sporting event to date with over over 2 billion people expected to tune in to watch.
The passion which the players, coaches and supporters have shown, the determination to challenge stereotypes and drive for change is wonderful. However, as this article points out, there is still a long way to go, funding challenges, pay and conditions and reputation to name a few.
In the meantime, I along with the rest of my household, will be taking advantage of friendly viewing times here in Singapore and tuning in to as many of the matches as possible over the next month to cheer on the teams that are competing. I hope you will be too!
