David Griffin established and co-leads the FTI Consulting practice in the Cayman Islands. Mr. Griffin has close to 25 years of experience in corporate finance and restructuring. He has been involved in some of the largest restructuring, insolvency and enforcement matters in the region involving investment funds and complex international groups of companies. He has a broad range of industry expertise, with a particular focus on financial services, private equity, energy and real estate.
Mr. Griffin is co-leader of the firm’s Registered Investment Advisor, FTI Capital Management, an investment advisory business focused on dealing with wind-downs of alternative investment funds. He has extensive experience devising and managing wind-down plans for distressed and non-distressed investment funds, having acted as replacement GP/investment manager, adviser, director, liquidator, receiver and/or trustee of numerous investment fund entities. Recent engagements include the winddown of a highly leveraged master/feeder fund structure facing liquidity pressure due to margin calls on complex derivative positions. He also recently led the wind-down of 27 fund vehicles on behalf of a major financial institution following a commercial decision to close its fund of funds platform.
Mr. Griffin has extensive expertise dealing with wind-downs of private equity funds. He is currently overseeing the closure of a fund with substantial real estate assets located in LATAM and is leading the wind-down of a natural resources fund with residual investments in Africa and other emerging markets. He has recently completed the wind-down of three venture capital and two private equity funds with 25 diverse portfolio companies across North America and Europe.
